“OUR GYM IS BUILT BY A COMMUNITY THAT CELEBRATES ALL ABILITIES”

ABOUT US

We are a fresh CrossFit Gym based in Blandford Forum, Dorset. We are ready to support you with high quality equipment, specialist coaches in both CrossFit and Olympic weight lifting and streamlined programming to achieve your goals as an athlete.

Yep, you read that right, anyone who steps into 258 is an Athlete!

An Athlete is not just the “shiny” person you see on social media, an Athlete is someone who gets it done. An Athlete is the person who is feeling a little daunted, but shows up and pushes themselves surrounded by people who want the best for each other. Someone with drive, determination and a growth mindset. Someone who knows its not easy, but is gonna give a bloody good go anyway.

Our gym is built by a community that celebrates all abilities, all bodies and all backgrounds - we celebrate anybody who feels ready to take on improving their fitness, be that for the first or 500th time. People who want to push themselves, who want to achieve, who want to develop themselves and their minds.

258 is for the farmers, teachers, lawyers, retirees and students alike. For the first time gym-goers, to those qualifying and winning international CrossFit Competitions.

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

From an exercise perspective, CrossFit takes all aspects of fitness and sports, cherry picks the best, most effective, and most applicable to everyday life, and combines them together
— Rich Froning

CrossFit is a strength, conditioning, and overall fitness program consisting of constantly varying functional movements. These are movements you perform every day — lifting objects, squatting, jumping, or stretching exercises. A CrossFit workout takes these everyday movements and implements them into a workout by adding higher weights, faster movements, or longer distances.

The idea is to increase the overall power necessary to perform these movements. They build muscle and strength. They improve flexibility. They increase stamina. CrossFit is designed to fit everyone’s ability level, and the process is simple. Each day, there is a prescribed workout complete with modifications for varying ability levels. Everyone in “the box,” aka the gym, completes the same workout.

Another common element of CrossFit is the spirit of friendly competition (Who doesn’t love a bit of competition?!). The workout is built for community and often uses competitions, scoreboards or leader boards, and even social media shoutouts to keep members motivated and interested.

CrossFit can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to better performance. The program works for everyone — people who have never worked out and those who have trained for years can all share equally in the benefits of CrossFit.

MEET THE TEAM

Charlie is Head Coach and Co-owner of 258.

In 2020, after living with chronic pain for over 8 years, Charlie elected to have his leg amputated. Whilst recovering, he discovered CrossFit and has loved it ever since. In 2021, he started competing in Adaptive CrossFit competitions and managed to place 3rd in the UK and 36th in the world in his category! He’s now competing all over the world. Charlie has continued to go bigger and better, recently finishing 7th worldwide in the Adaptive CrossFit Games semi-finals. He is now officially a CrossFit Games athlete and will be traveling to Texas in September 2024 to compete at the highest level.

Despite all his successes in competitions, Charlie will be the first to say that CrossFit is about building fitness into your every day life, giving you the ability to face any task. Which, as an amputee is especially important to him.

Charlie’s goal as a Coach is to help people realise that no matter where you are in your fitness journey, you can reach those goals… All it takes is a bit of hard work and determination!
